APART supports the Rainforest Foundation OroVerde

For more than ten years APART supports the Rainforest Foundation under the motto ´Looking good and doing good´.

OroVerde focusses on conserving the species-richest and most endangered ecosystems in the world. They mainly stand up for the surveillance of the illegal felling to protect the ecologically precious Rainforest.

The Raja Ampat Archipelago
The Raja Ampat Archipelago off the coast of West Papua, Indonesia, is a group of islands that hosts an unparalleled richness of species – as well as a still largely-intact rainforest. OroVerde supports the women of these ‘Bird of Paradise Islands’ in generating their own income and thus enabling them to live with the rainforest without having to fell it. These women of the rainforest have joined forces to produce baskets and other woven wares from local materials, instead of needing to live from eroding the rainforest. To do this they require training in craftsmanship and basic business practices, as well as accompanying consultancy to help identify and avert incipient problems in good time. In addition to this, environmental education programmes are carried out to help boost the community’s overall awareness of these issues and most specifically to raise the women’s level of related knowledge.
